Tree Care Day 2025 - Saturday 12th July 2025
Shortly after being informed that a majestic White Elm growing in Perth's Stewart Park had won third place in a province wide photo contest OPT contacted the organizers of the contest, Tree Trust Canada, to see if this tree would qualify for the Tree Care Day festival offered by Tree Trust. A video conference was held between several OPT members and a spokesperson with Tree Trust. The video conference went well and OPT is now organizing interest in Perth to ensure a Tree Care Day will proceed, Stay tuned!

Community Tree Care Days for Spring Summer 2025
Tree Trust, in partnership with Tree Canada, is offering to support a Tree Care day in 4 Ontario Communities in 2025.
Purpose: To encourage wider public engagement and interest in the well-being of mature trees within your community.
Event: A one-day festive, public celebration focused on preservation arboriculture care for one high profile mature tree in need of professional care. One - two additional public activities will be offered to complement the day. These could include a tree walk, planting, and/or tree inventory workshop. A special activity for young children may be included.
What will OPT do to bring a Tree Care Day to Perth?
- Seek interest from the Town of Perth and its residents to host such a day with assistance from Tree Trust Canada - DONE!
- Seek interest from local schools to see if students wish to get involved? Perhaps in a friendly competition to find the oldest tree in Perth? - ONGOING
- Seek interest with local arborists to see if they would attend Tree Care Day and work with Tree Trust arborists -DONE!
- Seek interest in forming a Perth chapter of Tree Trust Canada working with our own local arborist and interested volunteers who need not necessarily be members of Our Perth Trees. -ONGOING
How big is the White Elm tree that won third place?


Answer: It required three OPT members holding hands to encircle the old lady's trunk and give her a good hug!
